Heat pumps and low-temperature heating
What should I check first before choosing a heat pump?
Start with the building, insulation, emitters, domestic hot water and the existing heating source. A heat pump works best when the whole system is considered together.
Can a heat pump work with existing radiators?
Yes, but the radiator size, room load and target water temperature must be checked. The right answer depends on the building, not only on the product.
Is underfloor heating always necessary with a heat pump?
No. Underfloor heating is a strong match, but many projects also work with radiators or mixed systems when the temperatures are planned correctly.
Do I need a buffer tank or hydraulic separator?
Sometimes, but not always. It depends on the system volume, control strategy and whether the heat pump is serving more than one circuit.
Can one heat pump cover heating and domestic hot water?
Often yes, if the system is designed for both uses. The hot-water strategy should be checked at the same time as the heating circuit.
What should I send for a heat-pump quote?
Send floor area, insulation level, existing emitters, photos of the plant room if there is one, and any drawing or material list you already have. A short note is enough to start the discussion.
